Transition Training Programme

Developed in 2002 this three year Health Service Executive (HSE) funded rehabilitative training programme aims to provide learners whose needs have not been met by mainstream services with a range of vocational and leisure related experiences.

Rehabilitative training focuses on the development of an individual’s life skills, social skills and basic work skills with the objective of enhancing the trainee’s quality of life and general work capacity.A day trip to the Tayto Park


This programme has been designed to lead to the Level 3 FETAC Certificate in General Learning. There are 20 programme modules in this programme. Upon successful completion of a minimum of 6 programme modules a Learner will have achieved the required 60 credits for a Level 3 FETAC General Learning Award. At the end of the programme trainees will receive a FETAC level 3 certificate for the modules they have completed. Trainees who complete the required number of modules you will receive a Certificate in General Learning. The Learner can also gain certification in a Special Purpose award in Level 3 Culinary Skills 3S0924 if they complete the relevant component awards which are optional as part of this programme.

The programme aims to equip The Learner with the basic personal, practical skills, knowledge and attitude required for further training, supported employment, open employment or voluntary work. The programme aims to promote personal development and the gain of core life and social skills.
The Learner is supported to explore opportunities for transfer and progression both within Festina Lente and with other training providers. The Learner will have many options available to him/her. The learner may transfer to a programme leading to certification in one of the other Level 3 FETAC Major or Special Purpose Awards with another FETAC registered provider. Similarly the Learner may progress to a programme leading to a Level 4 FETAC award. Within Festina Lente learners can apply to progress to a FAS funded vocational training programme (Equestrian Training Programme) at FETAC level 4 or can apply to transfer to a HSE funded Adult Day Service through which they have access to supported employment opportunities.

Over the course of the programme learners are involved in a number of activities:

  • FETAC module work including cookery, communications, personal finances, personal and interpersonal skills and many more…
  • A wide range of sports and recreational activities
  • Community projects including volunteering for other charities
  • Work experience placements An educational programme to support awareness of friendships and relationships
  • Community Links; Involvement in local community activities and encouragement of use of local resources and facilities
  • An annual holiday, organised by the Learners with support of the programme team

At the end of the Training Programme Learners will receive certification from FETAC for the modules they have completed.
